With all the walking and sightseeing we have done, eating lunch has fallen into the 2 o'clock hour. We have made this meal the largest one of the day and finished our day with savory crepes or panini sandwiches and - of course - pastries and always coffee in the evening. We found that the cafes and restaurants are full of people between the noon hour and 2 o'clock when even the locals come out for lunch, most of all on the weekend. With so many cafes and restaurants around there is never a problem finding a place to sit.
By far my favorite French idea has been the Cafe Gourmand which brings a sampling of different desserts along with a cup of fabulous coffee, in this case a Cafe Noisette.
Here is a sampling of some of our meals, as you can see these are generous portions:
Quiche Lorraine, it may sound boring but the ham here is delicious so it had so much more flavor than what you get in the U.S.
Salade Chevre Chaud (warm goat cheese salad with cured ham on top) and a beer for Christine.
The thinly sliced potatoes are so good! This is Onglet a l'echalote (Steak in shallot sauce)
Boeuf Bourguignon...YUM YUM!
Tiramisu with raspberry sauce. It was the best I have ever had.
Mixed Grill with delicious green beans - a very common side vegetable (along with potatoes) in Paris but these were the best green beans of all the meals on the trip.
Grilled cod with rosemary sauce and the same delicious green beans.
Croque Monsieur with pesto and goat cheese (layered with ham and grated cheese and melted on a slice of toasted bread).
Chicken Tandoori, just for a change in cuisine. It was the Plat du Jour (plate of the day).
